About Caller ID Services
Caller Identification solutions aim at providing caller ID information to subscribers on their wireless, PSTN, or VoIP devices. These smarter solutions have enabled high connectivity within telecommunication circles. Subscribers may easily track down caller’s phone numbers and enable self security on the go. Caller ID can provide detailed information including the location from which the call was initiated and other results with the use of GPS integration. However, these solutions are still in early stages of development and may not yet be available commercially.
Caller ID services are generally charged by the service provider and are relatively standard. VoIP enabled devices can be integrated with the caller ID services and allow digital convergence on the go. Additional features of the called ID are that recipients may customize ringtones and alerts for specific numbers. As a result, caller identification is easy and instant.
How it Works
In order to benefit from Caller ID services one must ensure that this feature is activated on their wireless or VoIP device. The following are guidelines as to how it works:
• As soon as the call is connected, the digital phone instrument or wireless device captures the phone number using the telecommunication network.
• This number is displayed on the user’s screen
• As soon as the call is received, phone service can be enjoyed. The displayed phone numbers may then be stored in the phone memory or deleted as required.
Challenges
• Caller ID services may be restricted to local numbers and therefore may be unable to display international phone number information. Additional charges may apply to international caller ID services.
• The caller ID feature in digital land lines or wireless devices may not capture the proxy numbers or call details generated through VoIP networks such as Skype.
• Subscribers who experience difficulties tracking down a prank caller are not guaranteed to benefit from caller ID solutions. In such circumstances the subscriber is advised to refer to a third party paid data based in order to access the prank caller’s identification.

• Subscribers may access phone number and identification of the party calling them. The call can be returned and answered at the convenience of the subscriber
• In case of a missed call the subscriber may dial-in the missed call number with a single button click.
• Subscribers may customize ringtones based on the caller ID phone number. The option to set customized ringtones by group such as family, friends, or colleagues is also available.
